What are eyes?

There is a most common saying that:
"Eyes are the mirror of the soul"
Eyes are the most beautiful structure of our body and are the great blessing of almighty Allah.
We can see the colors of life and the beautiful nature created by Allah.
Some people are blessed with one more eye "the mind eye" .When, lets have a look on the colors of eye and some amazing facts about eyes.

How we get eye color?

Eye color is inherited from our parents. It also depend on part of world where we live and much more. There are 16 different genes that are responsible for eye color in human.
In humans, the pigmentation of the iris varies from light brown to black, depending on the concentration of melanin in the iris

Change In Eye Color:

Most babies who have European ancestry have light-colored eyes before the age of one. As the child develops, melanocytes (cells found within the iris of human eyes, as well as skin and hair follicles) slowly begin to produce melanin.Because melanocyte cells continually produce pigment, in theory eye color can be changed. Most eye changes happen when the infant is around one year old, although it can happen up to three years of age.Observing the iris of an infant from the side using only transmitted light with no reflection from the back of the iris, it is possible to detect the presence or absence of low levels of melanin. An iris that appears blue under this method of observation is more likely to remain blue as the infant ages. An iris that appears golden contains some melanin even at this early age and is likely to turn green or brown as the infant ages.

Different Eye Color In The World:

AMBER:
Amber eyes are of a solid color and have a strong yellowish/golden and russet/coppery tint. This may be due to the deposition of the yellow pigment called lipochrome in the iris (which is also found in green eyes).

BLUE:
There is no blue pigmentation either in the iris or in the ocular fluid. Unlike brown eyes, blue eyes have low concentrations of melanin
Blue eyes are common in northern and eastern Europe, particularly around the Baltic Sea. Blue eyes are also found in southern Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, North Africa and West Asia

BROWN:
In humans, brown eyes result from a relatively high concentration of melanin in the stroma of the iris,
Dark pigment of brown eyes is common in Europe, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, West Asia, Oceania, Africa, Americas, etc. as well as parts of Eastern Europe and Southern Europe. The majority of people in the world overall have dark brown eyes.

Grey:
Like blue eyes, gray eyes have a dark epithelium at the back of the iris and a relatively clear stroma at the front.
Gray eyes are most common in Northern and Eastern Europe.Gray eyes can also be found among the  Northwest Africa, in the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia. Under magnification, gray eyes exhibit small amounts of yellow and brown color in the iris.

GREEN:
As in the case of blue eyes, the color of green eyes does not result simply from the pigmentation of the iris.
They are most common in Northern and Central Europe. They can also be found in Southern Europe and Western Asia. In Ireland and Scotland 14% of people have brown eyes and 86% have either blue or green eyes,In Iceland, 89% of women and 87% of men have either blue or green eye color.

HAZEL:
Hazel eyes H amount of melanin in the iris' HAZEL eyes often appear to shift in color from a brown to a green. Although hazel mostly consists of brown and green, the dominant color in the eye can either be brown/gold or green.
Hazel eyes are common throughout Caucasoid populations, in particular in regions where blue, green and brown eyed peoples are intermixed.
Heterochromia

Heterochromia (also known as a heterochromia iridis or heterochromia iridum) is an ocular condition in which one iris is a different color from the other iris (complete heterochromia), or where a part of one iris is a different color from the remainder (partial heterochromia or sectoral heterochromia)

Worldwide Eye Color Distribution

Eye color worldwide
   Color         %
   Brown   55%
   Black     0%
   Blue       8.0%
   Green    2.0%
   Grey       0%
   Amber   5.0%
   Hazel     5-8%

Brown is the most common eye color
In the US only 1 out of 6 people have a light (blue) eye colour. The brown eye colour is in the US the most prevalent. No surprise, because brown is also the dominant colour.Africa is very brown
The further you go to the south, the more chance there is that you will find a person with brown eyes.  Further south, going to Africa, light eyes are almost disappeared.

Green eyes are rare
Within the ''light'' eyed population, the green eyes are outnumbered by the blue eyes. Green eyes are dominant over the blue eye colour but there are only very few people that carry the genes responsible for green eyes. Only 1-2% of the entire human population have green eyes.

RAREST EYE COLOR OF THE WORLD:
Green eyes are the rarest in the world with only around 2 percent of the population having green eyes. Green eyes are sometimes mistaken for hazel eyes.

SECOND RAREST EYE COLOR OF THE WORLD:
Around 8 percent of the world's population has blue eyes

MOST POPULAR EYE COLOR OF WORLD:
Brown eyes are the most popular eye color in the world, in terms of prevalence. More than 55 percent of the world's population has brown eyes.

Some Interesting Facts About Eyes:

  •  The entire length of all the eyelashes shed by a human in their life is over 98 feet with each eye lash having a life span of about 5 months.

  • Your eyeballs stay the same size from birth to death, while your nose and ears continue to grow.

  • Only 1/6 of the human eyeball is exposed
  • The human eye weights approximately just under an ounce and is about an inch across.
  • A fingerprint has 40 unique characteristics, but an iris has 256, a reason retina scans are increasingly being used for security purposes.

  • Seeing is such a big part of everyday life that it requires about half of the brain to get involved.
  • Newborns don’t produce tears. They make crying sounds, but the tears don’t start flowing until they are about 4-13 weeks old.
  • Around the world, about 39 million people are blind and roughly 6 times that many have some kind of vision impairment.
  • Your eye is the fastest muscle in your body – hence why when something happens quickly, we say ‘in the blink of an eye!’
